Hall effect

In 1879, during experiments made to directly measure the signal of charge carriers in a conductor Edwin H. Hall realized a peculiar phenomenon.

At the time it was already known that when the wire passed by electric current was exposed to a magnetic field, the loads present in this conductor were subjected to a force that caused its movement to be changed.

However, what Edwin Hall described was the emergence of negatively charged and positively charged regions in the conductor, creating a magnetic field perpendicular to the field generated by the main current.

In his honor this effect became known as the Hall Effect.
