Acoustics Applications

The study of sound-related wave phenomena ranges from understanding how our ears function as sensors that transmit signals to the brain to understanding what music is.

This area delights many scientists because it can explain issues such as timbre - which makes a musical note produce a different sound when played by a piano or flute - and also explains issues such as echo and reverberation, as well as Doppler effect, which causes the apparent frequency of a source to differ when it is moving.
