Iron metal is the most abundant in the earth's crust and the fourth most abundant of the elements.

The core of the earth is made up mainly of iron and nickel. Iron can be found in the form of the minerals hematite, magnetite, limonite, siderite, pyrite and ilmenite.

The largest iron producing countries in the world are China, Australia, Brazil, India, Russia, Ukraine, United States, South Africa, Canada and Sweden.
