Synthetic Polymers (continued)

Teflon

Polytetrafluoroethylene is a polymer known worldwide under the trade name. teflon. It is widely used in coating pans, gears and electrical insulation.

It has high heat and chemical resistance, good mechanical resistance and low coefficient of friction. It is a good insulator of electricity.

Teflon can be obtained from the reaction between tetrafluoroethylene.

Polymer widely used in the manufacture of ordinary plastic glass, in glasses, illuminated ads, etc.

It can be found commercially as lucite or plexiglass. It is obtained from a reaction with methyl methyl acrylate.

methyl polymethacrylate

This polymer can also be found as darlon or orlon.

Widely used in blankets, carpets, furniture lining, stuffed animals, etc. It can be obtained from acrylonitrile.
